As reported last night, the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau held its opening ceremonies yesterday, and the holding period has now begun.
Pearl Jam has just arrived in Hawaii (rumored to be staying at the Turtle Bay Resort), and played a private concert, with Kelly Slater joining the band onstage (as he may do again at Blaisdell Center in Honolulu tomorrow night, and again next Saturday night at Aloha Stadium when Pearl Jam opens for U2).
Speaking of Slater, the Quiksilver.com site has an interesting interview with the eight-time world champ, specifically on his relationship with - and experiences at - Waimea Bay, site of the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau event. Read the interview.
