Environmental Tips from Surfing Magazine

According to the "Green Issue" of Surfing Magazine that's on newstands now, anyone (that means you) can be an environmentalist - easily. A few quick do's and don'ts we can all practice in our daily lives:

Do:
  • - Buy products in bulk from places like Costco or Sam's Club. Less packaging means less trash in your can...and on the beach.
  • - Get your oil changed. Spend the extra dough rather than doing it yourself. The guys changing your oil will properly dispose of it, and it won't end up in the drain and - by extension - the ocean.
Don't:
  • - Take long showers. Take one shower a day, and if you surf twice, make one of the post-surf showers a refreshing outdoor shower. No reason to waste water...the money you'll save on the water bill will enable you to pay for an oil change (see above).
  • - Mow your lawn, or at least as often as you currently might. Keep your grass at around 3 1/2 inches and you'll use less fertilizer and gas for the mower. Plus you'll have more time to surf.
