Rookies Go Down at Quiksilver Pro France

Ah, the trials and tribulations of a rookie surfer on the World Championship Tour.

Just 10 days ago, Aussie Bede Durbidge shocked the surfing world by winning the Boost Mobile Pro at Lower Trestles. Today in France he shocked absolutely nobody by flaming out in the second round of the Quiksilver Pro at Hossegor.

Earlier this year, Santa Barbara homeboy Bobby Martinez looked like a shoo-in for WCT Rookie of the Year honors. Today he joined the ranks of second round losers for the second time in the past three events.

On the other end of the spectrum, you've really got to hand it to Mark Occhilupo. Occy's 40 years young now, and continues to take out younger competitors on a regular basis. The guy's ranked 15th in the world and with another heat win tomorrow, will move up further in the ratings.

Tune in on Thursday for all the action at ASPWorldTour.com.
