Hawaiian homeboy Fred Patacchia is one of the many surfers in the past decade who turned pro early after a stellar amateur career, only to struggle with high expectations.
Largely invisible for some years, a lot of industry types were just about to give up on Patacchia when he finally broke through the WQS to earn WCT rookie of the year honors last year.
Freddy surfed well in the first round of the Quiksilver Pro France at Hossegor, and is increasingly comfortable with his hard-earned position in pro surfing's major leagues.
For some interesting reading on the life and times of Fred Patacchia, here's a link to an interview done by Chris Mauro at SurferMag.com.
